Matera, la Città dei Sassi, Patrimonio Mondiale UNESCO, Capitale Europea della Cultura, capologuogo di provincia nella Basilicata, una città tra le più antiche del mondo.
Matera è una delle più interessanti destinazioni turistiche in Italia, e ha acquistato fama internazionale grazie ai “Sassi”, caverne preistoriche scavate nella roccia, forse uno dei primi insediamenti umani in Italia.
Grazie alla loro similarità con molte zone attorno a Gerusalemme, i Sassi sono stati usati come set di diversi film tra i quali “Il Vangelo secondo San Matteo” di Pasolini e “La Passione di Cristo” di Gibson.
